Uganda to Spotlight Rich Culture at 2026 Comoros Festival

Uganda is preparing to make a significant cultural statement on the continental stage with its participation in the upcoming 2026 Comoros Cultural Celebrations and Festival. A dedicated 16-member delegation will represent the nation, aiming to exhibit the richness of Ugandan traditions, music, and burgeoning tourism prospects.

The week-long festival, slated to run from October 12th to 18th, is set to be a vibrant convergence of African cultures. It will feature diverse groups from across the continent, celebrating their unique heritages through captivating performances of music, dance, fashion displays, and engaging cultural exhibitions.

Leading the Ugandan contingent is cultural promoter Valentine Muhereza, widely recognized as Kachaina. He emphasized that the festival offers a crucial opportunity to project Uganda’s national identity while simultaneously fostering stronger cultural connections with fellow African nations. “This is a great opportunity for Uganda to showcase the beauty of our culture to the rest of Africa. We want people to experience our music, dances, traditions and the hospitality that defines us as Ugandans,” Muhereza stated.

Muhereza further highlighted that the event transcends mere entertainment, serving as a vital platform for cross-cultural dialogue and developing pathways for artists. “Culture unites people beyond borders. By participating in this festival, we are strengthening friendships with other African countries while creating opportunities for our artists and cultural ambassadors,” he added.

Organizers anticipate the festival will significantly enhance Uganda’s tourism profile by introducing global audiences to its cultural variety and creating valuable networking avenues for performers and representatives. However, preparations are encountering obstacles due to financial and logistical constraints, with the delegation actively seeking support for travel, accommodation, and operational expenses.

“The biggest challenge at the moment is funding. We are still looking for support to facilitate transport, accommodation and other logistics, but we remain hopeful that we shall make it to Comoros,” Muhereza explained, appealing for assistance from both government and the private sector. He stressed that their participation is not just personal but represents Uganda’s image abroad.

Despite these hurdles, the delegation remains determined and optimistic about attending. “We are determined to raise Uganda’s flag high. We believe that when we return, we shall have created new partnerships that will benefit our cultural and tourism sectors,” Muhereza concluded.
