Ibanda Leader Secures Fifth Term After Four Decades of Service

Swale Kyeyune, a respected figure in Ibanda Municipality, has once again been returned unopposed as the Local Council One (LC1) chairperson for Katoma I Cell. This marks his fifth consecutive term, extending a remarkable period of service that now spans four decades.

Kyeyune, aged 75, has been the chairperson of Katoma I Cell in Kagongo Division since the mid-1980s. His unopposed return signifies the deep trust and confidence residents place in his leadership, characterized by accessibility and a commitment to grassroots development.

“I am deeply humbled by the confidence the people of Katoma I Cell have continued to place in me. Being declared unopposed is a clear sign that the residents appreciate the leadership we have offered over the years,” Kyeyune stated following his re-election. He pledged to continue serving with “honesty, fairness, and integrity.”

The veteran leader attributes his sustained support to transparent governance, accountability, and a proactive approach to addressing community challenges. For his new term, Kyeyune emphasized a focus on improving access to essential services, with rural electrification being a top priority.

Residents expressed their satisfaction with Kyeyune’s continued leadership. Sarah Nyakato highlighted his consistent availability and dedication, noting, “He listens to people, resolves disputes fairly, and always puts the interests of the community first.” Another resident, John Tumwesigye, views Kyeyune’s extensive experience as a significant asset that will help sustain ongoing development projects and lobby for much-needed infrastructure.

Kyeyune’s unopposed victory mirrors trends seen in other parts of Uganda as village elections proceed, but for Katoma I Cell, it represents a powerful affirmation of a leader who has become synonymous with community progress and stability over 40 years of dedicated service.
