Wakiso Schools Champion Creative Talents, Urging Parental Support

Secondary school students in Wakiso and Kampala districts recently showcased a vibrant display of their creative abilities at the WAKISHA MDD competitions. The event featured performances ranging from singing and drama to instrumental music and poetry, underscoring the diverse talents present among the youth.

Lawrence Muwonge, Chairperson of the WAKISHA MDD organizing committee and Headteacher of Buddo Secondary School, stressed that nurturing these talents is crucial for students’ future success. He noted that developing creative skills can equip young people with the means to sustain themselves after graduation, complementing traditional academic learning.

Muwonge also acknowledged the challenges faced by some schools in participating, such as a lack of essential equipment and qualified trainers. WAKISHA is working to encourage broader participation and overcome these obstacles, aiming to foster a more inclusive environment for artistic expression.

Appealing directly to parents, Muwonge urged them to recognize the value of their children’s talents and provide the necessary support. He believes that encouraging these pursuits alongside academics can significantly enhance a child’s prospects for a successful future.

Echoing this sentiment, WAKISHA Chairperson Immaculate Nasozi encouraged students to take their talents seriously, as creative skills are increasingly being recognized as viable paths to employment and personal fulfillment in today’s world.

Thirteen schools took part in the competitions, with Buddo Secondary School ultimately securing the championship trophy. All participating schools received certificates in recognition of their efforts.
