Rwenzori East Police Deploys Enhanced Security for LC1 Elections

Security forces in the Rwenzori East Region have issued a strong call for widespread and peaceful voter turnout in the upcoming Local Council I (LC1) and Executive Committee elections, scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026.

According to ASP Elly Maate, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, security agencies have significantly bolstered their presence and preparedness to ensure a smooth electoral process. The objective is to safeguard voters, candidates, and election officials throughout the exercise.

Police personnel have been on high alert since the electoral program commenced, with a readiness to swiftly address any disruptions to public order. Maate appealed to all involved parties, including candidates, their supporters, and the general public, to adhere to legal frameworks and cooperate with security personnel.

“The Territorial Police in Rwenzori East Region are calling on members of the public to come out in big numbers on 28th July 2026 and exercise their civil rights by electing leaders of their choice without any disruption,” stated Maate.

Community vigilance is also highlighted as a shared responsibility in maintaining security. Citizens are encouraged to remain alert before, during, and after the elections. Any acts of hooliganism, misconduct, violence, or malpractice will not be tolerated, police have warned.

In addition to encouraging lawfulness, security agencies advised voters to follow all safety directives and to report any suspicious activities or incidents immediately to security personnel or local leaders.

Maate reaffirmed the commitment of the police and other security bodies to protect lives and property, ensuring the LC1 elections proceed without incident.
