Electoral Commission Sets 6 PM Deadline for LC Candidate Campaigns

As the Local Council (LC) elections approach, the Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a firm directive for all candidates to conclude their campaigning efforts by 6:00 PM on Monday, July 27, 2026. EC spokesperson Julius Mucunguzi stressed that neither candidates, their agents, nor supporters will be allowed to engage in any campaign activities past this deadline.

Mucunguzi reminded contenders and their teams to adhere to electoral laws and guidelines as the campaign period draws to a close. He specifically pointed out that campaigning is prohibited in sensitive locations such as schools, hospitals, and markets. Furthermore, all campaign activities must be confined to the specific villages where candidates are contesting.

“No candidate is expected or allowed to have campaign processions outside the village within which that person is contesting. We do not want to see candidates from one village going into another village,” Mucunguzi stated.

The commission also appealed for a peaceful electoral process, urging both candidates and voters to avoid any form of violence or clashes. Political differences, Mucunguzi emphasized, should not escalate into conflict.

Registered voters are encouraged to participate actively in the LC1 elections scheduled for Tuesday, July 28. The EC thanked the government for declaring the day a public holiday to facilitate voter turnout. “We call upon all registered voters across the country to wake up early tomorrow and go to their respective villages to elect their LC1 chairpersons and village committees,” Mucunguzi urged, highlighting the importance of grassroots leadership.

Ugandans will head to the polls on Tuesday to elect LC1 chairpersons and village committees across the nation.
