Church of Uganda in Mityana offers prayers for Kabaka, urges youth to embrace Buganda's heritage

The Church of Uganda’s Mityana Diocese recently convened a significant thanksgiving and prayer service dedicated to the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II. This event coincided with the ongoing celebrations of his coronation anniversary.

The service, held at St. Andrew Church of Uganda in Namukozi, Mityana District, was led by the Vicar, Rev. Wilberforce Sseguya. He invoked prayers for the Kabaka’s sustained good health, wisdom, and strength in his leadership role.

During the congregation, attendees, including religious and cultural figures, expressed gratitude for the Kabaka’s reign and offered prayers for enduring peace, unity, and progress within Buganda and Uganda as a whole.

Representing the Buganda Kingdom, Minister for Culture and Heritage, Owek. Anthony Wamala, delivered a message underscoring the importance of safeguarding Buganda’s rich cultural heritage. He issued a compelling call to the youth, urging them to become proactive custodians of the Kingdom’s traditions and values.

“The future of Buganda rests on the shoulders of our young people. They must embrace our culture, protect our heritage, and actively participate in initiatives that foster the Kingdom’s development,” Wamala stated. He highlighted this year’s coronation theme, which focuses on youth empowerment, encouraging young individuals to embody discipline, diligence, patriotism, and respect for cultural institutions.

Rev. Sseguya also appealed to Christians to maintain their prayers for the Kabaka, emphasizing that effective leadership is bolstered by faith, unity, and collective cooperation. The service concluded with a reaffirmation of commitment from religious leaders, cultural officials, local authorities, and the public towards preserving Buganda’s cultural legacy and promoting community development.
