Bukomansimbi MP Slams Colleagues for Prioritizing Politics Over Constituents' Needs

Hassan Mukiibi Sserunjogi, the Member of Parliament for Bukomansimbi South, has expressed strong criticism towards certain political leaders, accusing them of prioritizing political maneuvering over the welfare and development of the communities they represent.

Speaking at a community gathering in Kamaanda Village, Kibiinge Sub-county, Bukomansimbi District, Sserunjogi observed that Parliament has become a stage for political drama for some, diverting attention from their core duty of improving constituents’ lives.

He highlighted the significant financial resources, including substantial salaries and benefits, that MPs receive from taxpayers. Sserunjogi lamented that despite these provisions, some legislators have little to show in terms of developmental projects and improved services within their areas.

“Some leaders spend all their time attacking others and making empty political statements, yet they have failed to bring development to the communities they represent. Leadership is about serving people, not seeking personal fame,” Sserunjogi stated, emphasizing the disconnect between public service and personal ambition.

The legislator detailed the generous allowances MPs receive, noting monthly salaries of approximately Shs54 million, extensive medical insurance, official vehicles, and substantial fuel allowances. He argued that these resources should translate into visible progress in critical sectors like roads, healthcare, and education.

Sserunjogi also took a swipe at politicians who, he believes, spend excessive time criticizing President Yoweri Museveni without addressing the pressing issues faced by their constituents. He urged them to focus on accountability and service delivery instead of mere criticism.

“Instead of spending all their time insulting the President and fellow leaders, they should account to the people who elected them by delivering services and initiating development projects,” the MP advised.

He encouraged voters to look beyond political pronouncements and evaluate their representatives based on their actual achievements and the positive impact they have on local development.

“Support leaders who bring tangible development to your communities, not those who only make noise for political attention,” Sserunjogi urged the residents.

The meeting in Kamaanda Village was part of Sserunjogi’s ongoing efforts to engage with constituents, understand their concerns, and work towards solutions for local development challenges.
