A major development is underway at Muteesa I Royal University in Kakeeka, Mmengo, with the groundbreaking for a new six-storey academic building. Officiated by Nnaalinya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, the project signifies a substantial commitment to enhancing higher education within the Buganda Kingdom.

The state-of-the-art facility is designed to significantly boost the university’s capacity, with plans to accommodate up to 4,700 students. It will feature 100 lecture rooms, providing more spaces for learning and teaching, alongside a substantial 1,000-seat auditorium intended for large academic gatherings and events.

The total cost for this extensive project is estimated at Shs23 billion. Centenary Bank has stepped in to provide crucial financial backing for this initiative. The construction will be executed in two distinct phases, each planned for a two-year duration. The initial phase will require Shs10 billion, followed by Shs13 billion for the second phase.

Currently, the Buganda Kingdom’s Ministry of Human Development and Education is in the process of evaluating several construction firms. This careful assessment is being conducted to ensure the selection of a contractor capable of delivering the project to the highest standards. Weerinde Insurance Brokerage Services Ltd has been appointed to underwrite the insurance for the construction works, providing financial security for the undertaking.

Minister Choltilda Nakate Kikomeko expressed gratitude to Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II for his persistent dedication to elevating educational standards across the kingdom. This project is a key part of the ongoing celebrations for the Kabaka’s Coronation Anniversary, underscoring the importance placed on education for the kingdom’s future.
