Deputy Speaker Thomas Tayebwa has lauded the late Former First Deputy Prime Minister and Adjumani West County MP, Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, as a distinguished figure in Ugandan public service. Tayebwa described Ali, who passed away at 87, as a statesman, patriot, and mentor whose influence extended beyond politics, shaping his own leadership journey.

During the funeral service held in Adjumani District, Tayebwa recounted how Gen. Ali served as a father figure and mentor, particularly during Tayebwa’s tenure as Government Chief Whip. He shared that the offices being opposite each other provided an opportunity to learn from Ali’s wisdom, discipline, and humility.

Tayebwa emphasized Ali’s constant advice to “Be humble,” a principle he vowed to carry throughout his leadership career. He conveyed condolences from Parliament and highlighted Gen. Ali’s lifelong dedication to fostering national unity and advocating for the inclusion of the Nubian community.

Gen. Ali’s career spanned military service, rising to the rank of Brigadier during the Idi Amin regime and holding ministerial positions. After a period in exile, he led the Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF) before signing a peace accord and integrating into the NRM government. He served in various senior roles, including Deputy Prime Minister, and represented Adjumani West County in Parliament.

Beyond his public service, Gen. Ali was a successful commercial farmer and authored a book on the history of the Nubian community in Uganda. He also supported community development through educational initiatives and infrastructure projects.

His legacy serves as an inspiration for both current and future generations of leaders, embodying patriotism, courage, and selfless service.
