NUP Celebrates Six Years, Vows Resilience Amidst Political Adversity

The National Unity Platform (NUP) recently celebrated its sixth anniversary, a milestone occasion for party leaders to reflect on the movement’s progress and challenges. Secretary General David Lewis Rubongoya acknowledged the difficult path the party has traversed, attributing its sustenance to divine guidance and the unwavering support of its followers.

Rubongoya characterized the six-year mark as a moment for introspection and renewed determination. He extended gratitude to NUP leaders, Members of Parliament, grassroots mobilizers, and especially the party’s ‘foot soldiers,’ whose commitment and sacrifices have been crucial to the party’s growth.

Leader of the Opposition, Joel Ssenyonyi, reiterated the party’s resolve to persevere despite facing arrests, intimidation, and persecution. He affirmed that such actions would not deter NUP from its pursuit of truth, justice, and democratic governance in Uganda.

During the celebrations, NUP’s Deputy President for the Western Region, Jacklyn Jolly Tukamushaba, highlighted the party’s expanding influence across the country. She suggested that many Ugandans who appear outwardly aligned with the ruling party secretly support NUP, a sentiment often suppressed due to fear of reprisal or economic consequences.

Tukamushaba urged supporters to maintain unity and continue broadening the party’s base, emphasizing that collective strength is key to achieving their objectives. The anniversary marks six years since the People Power Movement officially transformed into the National Unity Platform in July 2020.
