In a significant leadership change within the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Air Force, Colonel Itungo Rwakishaija has been elevated to the rank of Brigadier General. This promotion, sanctioned by President Yoweri Museveni, also comes with the appointment of Rwakishaija as the new Chief of Staff for the UPDF Air Force.
Brigadier General Rwakishaija succeeds Brigadier General David Gonyi, who has been reassigned. General Gonyi will now serve as the Commandant of the Senior Command and Staff College in Kimaka.
The reshuffling also affects other key positions. Brigadier General Michael Kabango has been moved from the Senior Command and Staff College to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management department for further redeployment. Additionally, Colonel Kenneth Shilling has been appointed as the Director of Human Resource Management within the UPDF Air Force.
Further changes include the appointment of Brigadier General Emanuel Kazahura as the acting Commandant of the Uganda Rapid Deployment Capability (URDC) in Jinja. These appointments signal a broader restructuring aimed at enhancing the operational efficiency and strategic capabilities of the UPDF’s air command and other specialized units.
