NRM Rallies Support: Todwong Urges Mass Turnout for Final Village Barazas Ahead of LC Elections

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong is urging all party members, supporters, and voters to attend the second round of nationwide Village Barazas. These gatherings are crucial for rallying support behind the National Resistance Movement’s (NRM) official candidates in the impending Village Women Council and Local Council I Chairperson elections.

The initial Village Barazas, held on July 10, were instrumental in selecting vacant party positions and confirming official nominees for the upcoming polls.

Following internal party selections, the Electoral Commission managed candidate nominations from July 15 to 19. Nominated candidates are now actively campaigning within their respective villages.

The upcoming Barazas on July 22 will serve as the NRM’s final major mobilization event before voting commences. The Village Women Council elections are scheduled for July 23, with the LC I Chairperson elections following on July 28.

Todwong expressed confidence in the NRM’s extensive grassroots structures, stating they are unparalleled in Uganda and have consistently delivered electoral victories. “We have elected leaders in every village, and these structures have delivered victory in presidential, parliamentary and local government elections,” he remarked.

The party boasts structures in approximately 72,000 villages, with elected leaders tasked with grassroots mobilization and promoting NRM programs. Todwong highlighted the Barazas as a vital opportunity to connect with communities, introduce candidates, and foster unity.

He emphasized the importance of the LC I Chairperson position as the bedrock of Uganda’s governance, noting the crucial role village leaders play in community mobilization, development, and maintaining peace.

This final push for support follows weeks of nationwide mobilization efforts, encouraging NRM members to remain united and back official party candidates over independents. The NRM is optimistic that its strong grassroots presence, candidate campaigns, and continued mobilization will lead to success in the upcoming elections.
