Presiding over the funeral of Mzee Erizephan Ndimukika in Buwagi, Jinja District, Minister for the Presidency, Milly Babalanda, delivered a powerful message to Ugandans, emphasizing the critical need for hard work and a firm stance against corruption.
Mzee Ndimukika, father to former SDA Archbishop Pastor Dr. Moses Ndimukika Maka, was lauded for his life of service and dedication. Babalanda, conveying condolences from President Museveni and the First Lady, highlighted Mzee Ndimukika’s legacy as a model farmer in Jinja, a testament to the rewards of diligent labor.
“We must emulate his example and utilize available resources and government initiatives to uplift ourselves and fight poverty,” Babalanda stated, urging attendees to tap into programs like Emyooga, Operation Wealth Creation (OWC), and the Parish Development Model (PDM).
The minister did not shy away from addressing the pervasive issue of corruption, describing it as a detrimental vice that cripples national development and erodes essential services. “Corruption steals from our schools, our hospitals, our roads and the future of our children,” she passionately articulated, warning that it undermines the very values of hard work and integrity the nation aspires to uphold.
Babalanda issued a call to action for all citizens to actively challenge and reject corruption within their spheres of influence. “Say no to corruption in your office and in your community. Let us report it, refuse it and reject those who practise it,” she urged.
She also noted the government’s efforts to streamline service delivery and reduce opportunities for corrupt practices through digital platforms and accessible programs. The minister concluded by expressing hope for a self-reliant and prosperous Uganda, free from the shackles of corruption, and offered prayers for the departed and his grieving family.
This message was delivered in the presence of family members, church leaders, government officials, and local residents. The funeral service was an occasion for national reflection on progress and ethical conduct.
