The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA), in collaboration with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the Civil Aviation Safety and Security Oversight Agency (CASSOA), has initiated a significant regional workshop in Entebbe. The event aims to bolster airport security programs across East Africa, equipping participants with the latest knowledge and strategies to combat contemporary aviation security challenges.

The workshop, which commenced on Monday, gathers aviation security professionals, regulators, and airport personnel. Its primary objective is to elevate airport security initiatives to meet international standards and effectively address the dynamic landscape of global aviation threats.

During the opening, Eng. Ayub Sooma, UCAA Director of Airports and Aviation Security, highlighted the increasing sophistication of threats facing the aviation sector. He emphasized the critical need for continuous adaptation and strengthened collaboration among all stakeholders to counter these evolving risks. Sooma underscored that robust aviation security is fundamental to maintaining public trust in air travel.

Facilitated by experts from ICAO and CASSOA, the workshop places a strong emphasis on refining airport security planning, enhancing risk assessment methodologies, and ensuring adherence to international aviation security standards. Participants are expected to develop unified strategies for addressing emerging security concerns and foster deeper cooperation among civil aviation authorities throughout the region.

UCAA has stated its ongoing commitment to reinforcing aviation security at Entebbe International Airport through comprehensive staff training, infrastructure upgrades, and the diligent implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices. This workshop is anticipated to provide attendees with practical skills and advanced security strategies, thereby improving regional preparedness and safeguarding the aviation sector.
