Buganda Kingdom youth have been encouraged to embrace diligence, self-sufficiency, and active participation in their communities. Minister Robert Sserwanga emphasized that these virtues are crucial in aligning with the vision of Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II.
Sserwanga delivered these remarks at Mumyuka Maanyi Sub-county headquarters during a ceremony marking the handover of the sub-county to the Kabaka’s representative. This event is part of the ongoing celebration of the Kabaka’s 33rd Coronation Anniversary and highlights the kingdom’s initiative, “Muvubuka Yoyoota Eggombolola Yo” (Youth, Beautify Your Sub-county).
Prior to the ceremony, Minister Sserwanga participated in tree-planting activities with local leaders and youth, underscoring the importance of environmental stewardship. He quoted the Kabaka, stating, “The Kabaka has consistently encouraged young people to work hard, protect the environment and transform the communities where they live. We must respond to that call through action, not words.”
The minister urged the youth to leverage their skills and energy for personal and community betterment, stressing that development starts at the local level. He added, “Every young person has a responsibility to uplift their community. Development begins where we live, and it is our duty to ensure our sub-counties become cleaner, greener and more productive.”
Derrick Kavuma, the Chairperson of Youth in Buganda Kingdom, expressed gratitude for the Kabaka’s initiatives that empower young people. The Busujju County Chief, Israel Lubega Kasujju Maaso, described the program as a practical application of the kingdom’s “Federo y’Ebikolwa” (development through action) philosophy.
The event also saw the swearing-in of the Mumyuka Maanyi Sub-county Youth Committee, who pledged to lead efforts in youth mobilization, environmental conservation, and community development.
The “Muvubuka Yoyoota Eggombolola Yo” campaign is one of several activities organized by Buganda Kingdom to celebrate 33 years of Kabaka Mutebi II’s reign, aiming to foster environmental protection and volunteerism among the youth.
