Ambassador Nekesa Urges NRM Leaders to Boost Grassroots Mobilization for LC1 Elections

NRM National Treasurer, Ambassador Barbara Nekesa Oundo, has implored NRM leaders in the Bukedi sub-region to ramp up mobilization efforts for the upcoming Local Council One (LC1) and Village Women Council elections. Speaking at a meeting in Kamonkoli Town Council, Budaka District, Ambassador Nekesa highlighted that robust village structures are fundamental to the ruling party’s enduring political strength.

Ambassador Nekesa acknowledged the unwavering support the Bukedi region has historically provided to President Museveni and the NRM, noting its significant contribution to the party’s electoral successes. She views the forthcoming grassroots elections as a prime opportunity to solidify this support by fortifying the party’s presence at the village level.

“The village is where our strength begins, and we must remain connected with our people through strong grassroots structures,” Nekesa stated, underscoring the party’s commitment to maintaining direct engagement with constituents.

She further elaborated on the importance of these local elections, explaining that while national elections capture broader attention, LC elections directly impact service delivery and the successful implementation of government programs. Effective grassroots leadership ensures that policies formulated at the national level translate into tangible benefits for communities.

Drawing parallels to the NRM’s historical roots, Nekesa reminded leaders of the vital role village-level structures played during the liberation struggle, handling mobilization, security, and administration. She stressed that organized village leadership is now essential for promoting government initiatives like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and for keeping leaders informed about the challenges faced by local populations.

Ambassador Nekesa urged leaders to actively participate in village barazas scheduled for July 22 to rally support for NRM candidates in the Village Women Council elections on July 23 and the LC1 chairperson elections on July 28. She encouraged them to communicate the party’s message in accessible formats and languages that resonate with the grassroots.

The meeting included Members of Parliament, district chairpersons, and various party officials from across the Bukedi sub-region, as well as NRM communication and mobilization teams. This engagement is part of a broader nationwide effort by the NRM to strengthen its organizational base in preparation for the local elections.
