Adjumani Gears Up for Gen. Moses Ali's State Funeral, Expecting 25,000 Mourners

Adjumani District is mobilizing to accommodate a significant influx of mourners, with expectations set at over 25,000 people for the state funeral of the late General (Rtd.) Moses Ali. The Central Organising Committee (COC), led by Adjumani District LCV Chairperson John Anyanzo Ambayo, is working in tandem with the central government and security agencies to orchestrate a befitting farewell for the former Second Deputy Prime Minister.

The committee has announced plans to manage the large crowd at Paridi Stadium, ensuring the ceremony is both orderly and dignified. While a final official program is pending from the government, the tentative schedule suggests the General’s body will lie in state at Parliament on Tuesday before being airlifted to Adjumani. A night vigil is planned before the official burial on Wednesday.

Local leaders, including Adjumani East MP James Mamawi, are urging residents to unite in honoring General Moses Ali’s memory, highlighting his decades of service and contributions to Uganda, particularly the West Nile region.

Preparations are also advanced at the Taqwa Mosque Cemetery in Abiricaku Village, where the grave is being dug in accordance with Islamic traditions. Alhajji Imam Yusuf Baraka of Taqwa Mosque confirmed the early commencement of grave preparation to ensure a smooth Islamic burial rite following the public ceremony.

General Moses Ali passed away at Nakasero Hospital after a long career in Ugandan politics and the military. His death has prompted widespread tributes, with many recalling him as a patriot and a key figure in the peace and development of West Nile.

District leadership has appealed for calm and cooperation from the public as Adjumani prepares to host this significant event, aiming to provide General Moses Ali with the honorable send-off he deserves.
