Late Gen. Moses Ali Credited with Securing Funds to Avert Teachers' Strike

Victor Leku Bua, the Commissioner for Compensation in the Ministry of Public Service, has paid tribute to the late Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali, highlighting his crucial role in mobilizing significant funds that appeased teachers’ salary demands in 2017.

Bua revealed that Gen. Moses Ali chaired a special Cabinet sub-committee tasked with identifying financial resources to address the escalating demands for salary enhancements among teachers. This was a critical period when the threat of a nationwide strike loomed large over the education sector.

The committee, under Gen. Ali’s leadership, successfully secured over Shs500 billion. This substantial allocation allowed the government to implement the planned salary enhancements, thereby de-escalating the tensions and averting the industrial action that would have severely disrupted the academic calendar.

Bua lauded Gen. Ali’s dedication and patriotism, stating that he consistently prioritized national interests. He described the former general as a towering statesman, a mentor, and a patriot whose contributions to Uganda’s development would be remembered by future generations.

Reflecting on personal encounters, Bua shared that he and Prof. Robert Esuruku often met with Gen. Moses Ali, benefiting from his extensive experience and leadership wisdom. These meetings were characterized by mentorship and a shared love for the country.

The Ma’di community and the wider West Nile region consider Gen. Moses Ali’s passing a profound loss. His decades of public service, marked by integrity and commitment to national unity, earned him widespread respect across various divides. He was among the few Ugandan leaders to have served under three presidents, a testament to the enduring trust placed in his leadership capabilities.

Bua extended condolences to Gen. Ali’s family and urged the Ma’di community to uphold his legacy by fostering unity, patriotism, and selfless service. Gen.
