Veteran politician and retired military officer, General (Rtd) Moses Ali, is currently receiving medical attention at Nakasero Hospital, sparking widespread concern among the public. The 87-year-old former Second Deputy Prime Minister was admitted to the private facility earlier this week, with sources close to the matter confirming his ongoing treatment.
Family members, including some who have travelled from abroad, were observed visiting Gen. Ali at the hospital on Friday. His son, State Minister for Works Ali Siraj, was present but declined to comment on his father’s condition when approached by journalists. Later, one of Gen. Ali’s daughters, visiting from Sudan, described his health as “not good” but did not offer further details.
The Ministry of ICT and National Guidance confirmed Gen. Ali’s hospitalization, with Minister Justine Kasule Lumumba stating that he was receiving treatment. However, specific details regarding the nature of his illness or his prognosis were not disclosed.
Gen. Moses Ali has had a long and significant career spanning over five decades in both the military and politics of Uganda. He held various senior positions, including during the Idi Amin administration, and later led the Uganda National Rescue Front (UNRF). Following a peace agreement in 1986, he was integrated into the National Resistance Army and subsequently served in multiple high-profile Cabinet roles, most recently as Second Deputy Prime Minister.
Despite not being reappointed to Cabinet after the recent general elections, Gen. Ali continued his long tenure as the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency, solidifying his position as one of Uganda’s most enduring political figures.
