With Local Council One (LC1) elections on the horizon, Presidential Special Advisor Ssewava Sserubiri is calling on voters to make informed choices. He stressed the critical role of effective village leadership in the success of government initiatives and overall community development.

Sserubiri advised citizens to look beyond political party ties or personal connections when selecting candidates. Instead, he urged a focus on individuals possessing integrity, demonstrable competence, and a clear vision for improving their local areas.

“The future of every village depends on the leaders people choose,” Sserubiri stated, reinforcing that commitment to community service and support for government programs should be paramount. He specifically cautioned against automatic selection based on National Resistance Movement (NRM) membership, asserting that capability to deliver results should be the deciding factor.

According to the advisor, ineffective LC1 leaders often falter in monitoring government projects, mediating local disputes, and mobilizing residents. This neglect, he explained, weakens service delivery, erodes public trust, and ultimately hinders national progress.

Beyond the village level, Sserubiri also reminded ministers and public officials of their accountability to President Museveni and the public, urging them to remain focused on delivering results. The advisor also commended ongoing efforts to combat corruption, deeming them vital for ensuring public resources benefit citizens.

Furthermore, Sserubiri issued a warning regarding the misuse of social media, cautioning against the spread of misinformation and insults. He reminded users that freedom of expression comes with responsibility, and those who break the law online will face legal consequences.

As campaigns intensify, Sserubiri reiterated that electing competent leaders at the LC1 level is foundational for effective governance, fostering accountability, unity, and development from the grassroots up.
