NRM Deploys Nationwide Teams for Village Election Monitoring

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has launched a comprehensive nationwide exercise to mobilize and monitor its activities leading up to the impending Local Council (LC) and Women Council elections. This initiative involves deploying senior party leaders and cadres across Uganda to coordinate campaign efforts and support NRM flag bearers.

According to NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong, the party has followed the Electoral Commission’s roadmap and completed its internal preparations. The NRM selected its LC1 flag bearers in May 2025, and village barazas were held on July 10, 2026, to fill any vacancies. Official nominations for the NRM candidates are currently underway.

Todwong expressed confidence that the NRM has candidates for all LC1 chairperson and Women Council positions nationwide. He emphasized the elections’ importance in strengthening grassroots governance and ensuring the effective execution of government programs, particularly the Parish Development Model (PDM). LC2 chairpersons, who automatically head Parish Development Committees, play a crucial role in PDM’s success.

Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja Nsereko stated that coordination teams, composed of NRM Secretariat members and other party cadres, have been formed to supervise sub-regional efforts. These teams will begin by meeting with district leaders, administrative secretaries, registrars, and Members of Parliament to align mobilization strategies and provide guidance.

The mobilization effort will extend to the sub-county level, where teams will engage with local NRM leaders and candidates. The campaign will culminate in village barazas across the country on July 22 to promote party unity and garner support.

Amb. Barbara Oundo Nekesa, the National Treasurer, confirmed that the Central Executive Committee has allocated modest financial resources to support NRM candidates during their campaigns. The mobilization teams are expected to remain deployed until all elections conclude.

Dr. Rosemary Sseninde, NRM Director for Mobilization, outlined a three-tiered meeting structure at the sub-regional, sub-county, and village levels to ensure effective coordination and message dissemination throughout the electoral process. This deployment represents the NRM’s final phase of grassroots preparations as they aim for victory.
