National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has announced a change in the party’s acting leadership. John Baptist Nambeshe, who holds the position of Deputy President for the Eastern Region, has now assumed the role of acting party president.
This transition marks the end of the four-month tenure of Dr. Lina Zedriga Waru, the Deputy President for the Northern Region, who had been temporarily steering NUP’s affairs. Kyagulanyi expressed gratitude for Dr. Zedriga’s service, acknowledging her role in maintaining stability and focus within the party during her acting period.
“For four months, Dr Lina Zedriga Waru, Deputy President Northern Region, has been acting President of our Party. During this period, she has steered the party well and kept the revolution alive. We’re all very grateful for her dedication and service,” Kyagulanyi stated on his social media platforms.
Nambeshe, the Member of Parliament for Manjiya County in Bududa District, is a senior figure within NUP. His appointment follows a pattern where the party has rotated the acting presidency among its regional deputy presidents. Kyagulanyi has urged all party members to offer Nambeshe the necessary support as he takes on his new responsibilities.
The duration of Nambeshe’s acting tenure has not been specified by the party president.
