Mufti of Uganda Mourns Gen. Moses Ali, Lauds His Enduring Legacy

The Muslim leadership in Uganda, led by Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has mourned the passing of General (Rtd) Moses Ali, remembering him as a patriot and a staunch supporter of Muslim institutions.

In his condolence message, the Mufti extended heartfelt sympathies to Gen. Ali’s family, the people of Adjumani and the West Nile region, the Ugandan government, and all citizens grieving the loss of the distinguished leader.

Mufti Mubaje lauded Gen. Ali for his lifelong commitment to national service, highlighting his pivotal role in Uganda’s political landscape, peace-building initiatives, and reconciliation efforts, particularly in the West Nile region.

The Mufti also emphasized Gen. Ali’s instrumental contribution to the formation and growth of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), identifying him as a key figure in the establishment of this vital institution.

Throughout his public career, Gen. Ali consistently worked to strengthen Muslim institutions and improve the welfare of the Muslim community. The Mufti credited him with leveraging his government influence to support significant projects benefiting Muslims and the broader Ugandan populace, including the expansion of the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and the establishment of Kibuli Muslim Hospital.

“Gen. Moses Ali will be remembered not only as a national leader but also as a committed son of the Muslim community whose dedication to the development of Islamic institutions helped shape the future of generations of Ugandans,” stated the Mufti.

He urged Ugandans to honor Gen. Ali’s legacy by embracing unity, peaceful coexistence, and selfless service. The Mufti also led prayers for the late General, asking for forgiveness for his shortcomings and envisioning his place in paradise.

The UMSC has organized funeral prayers at the Gaddafi National Mosque, inviting Muslims nationwide to attend and pay their final respects to the veteran statesman.
