Mityana Traders Briefed on Shs34.9 Billion Infrastructure Development Program

Mityana Municipality is gearing up for a significant infrastructure overhaul with the launch of the Uganda Cities and Municipalities Infrastructure Development (UCMID) Programme, valued at Shs34.9 billion. Local leaders have initiated extensive sensitisation efforts targeting traders to ensure they are well-informed about the project’s scope, relocation plans, and the anticipated long-term benefits.

Mayor Faustin Mukambwe Lukonge highlighted that the relocation period for traders has been extended to allow ample time for preparation and to minimize disruptions to their businesses. This extension, coupled with a three-month preparation window for the municipality itself, aims for an orderly transition that safeguards traders’ livelihoods.

“Our objective is to ensure that every trader clearly understands the implementation process and has sufficient time to relocate in an orderly manner. We do not want anyone to be unfairly affected by this project,” stated Mayor Mukambwe. He urged traders to cooperate, emphasizing that the UCMID Programme is a transformative initiative set to enhance Mityana’s urban landscape, improve the business climate, and boost service delivery.

Approximately 70 percent of the Shs34.9 billion funding is dedicated to road construction and improvement projects within the municipality. An additional Shs1.9 billion has been set aside for crucial administrative activities, including community outreach, resettlement programs, and other essential implementation tasks. Municipal officials are confident that these efforts will foster understanding and cooperation, ultimately leading to improved infrastructure, enhanced mobility, and a more vibrant economic environment for Mityana.

This initiative is expected to significantly upgrade the municipality’s infrastructure, making it more conducive for both businesses and residents once completed.
