Kagame Advises Youth: Invest in Foundations, Not Just 'Vibes'

Rwandan President Paul Kagame has strongly advised young people against prioritizing ephemeral social media trends and fleeting moments, commonly referred to as ‘vibes’. Instead, he urged them to focus on building robust foundations for their future through education, skill development, and entrepreneurship.

Speaking at an extended Rwanda Patriotic Front (RPF) Bureau Politique meeting attended by over 2,000 participants, Kagame addressed the growing popularity of the term ‘vibes’ among youth in Rwanda and across Africa. He acknowledged that enjoying life is acceptable, but stressed that it must be grounded in substantive achievements.

“Don’t invest in vibes, invest in the foundation where you can now vibe. Because if there is no foundation, it won’t last,” Kagame asserted. He emphasized that sustainable development and resilient societies are built on strong foundations, not temporary excitement.

Kagame reminded the youth that the future of Rwanda rests largely in their hands and called for personal responsibility in shaping it. He highlighted the crucial link between education and good health, stating that knowledge is of little value without the physical capacity to utilize it. “You must have knowledge, and you must have good health. Because if you are not healthy, what use is knowledge?” he questioned.

Drawing parallels to nurturing a child or planting a tree, the President encouraged continuous investment in personal growth. He urged young people to not only acquire knowledge but also to translate it into practical achievements that contribute to their goals and the nation’s progress.

Kagame’s message aligns with broader discussions in Africa concerning the direction of youth development in the digital age, advocating for a balance between leisure and deliberate investment in skills and entrepreneurship for long-term prosperity.
