North Kigezi Bishop Calls for Spiritual Renewal and Strong Families Among Clergy

During the North Kigezi Diocese’s annual three-day Clergy and Spouses Conference in Rukungiri, Bishop Rt. Rev. Onesimus Asiimwe delivered a message urging religious leaders and their partners to focus on their spiritual lives and family well-being.

The conference, held at Hotel Riverside, serves as a vital period for spiritual refreshment, fellowship, and equipping for ministry for clergy from across the diocese.

Bishop Asiimwe highlighted the demanding nature of ministry, stressing the necessity for intentional seasons of renewal for both clergy and their spouses to combat potential exhaustion. “Ministry can be exhausting, which is why we must intentionally set aside time to seek spiritual renewal,” he stated, emphasizing the conference’s role in sharpening and strengthening participants.

He further advised clergy to remain steadfast in their faith and teachings, encouraging them to dedicate time to personal growth and a deeper relationship with God, likening this to a prophet refocusing on God’s majesty rather than earthly distractions.

The Bishop also underscored the importance of authentic prayer lives, not as an obligation, but as a natural outflow of a personal connection with God. He also recognized the critical role clergy spouses play, acknowledging their unwavering commitment and partnership in advancing the Church’s mission.

“A time will come when you retire from active ministry, but your marriage and family will remain,” Bishop Asiimwe reminded attendees. He urged them to nurture their marriages and families, referring to the home as the minister’s “first parish” and encouraging the development of strong, lasting relationships.

The conference includes teachings and mentorship from various guest speakers, aiming to enhance the spiritual, emotional, and pastoral welfare of clergy and their families as they continue their service. This annual gathering is a key initiative by the Diocese to support its ministry leaders.
