The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has expressed a strong commitment to deepening the partnership between the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) and the International University of East Africa (IUEA). During a visit to IUEA’s Kampala campus, Sheikh Mubaje highlighted the university’s focus on science, engineering, and technology as vital for Uganda’s development.

He particularly commended IUEA for offering programs in fields like engineering, petroleum studies, mining, and electric motorcycle technology, which equip students with practical, job-ready skills. The Mufti also lauded the university for providing scholarship opportunities to students through the UMSC, signaling an intent to further strengthen this existing collaboration.

Reflecting on the site’s history as a former amusement park, Mubaje noted with satisfaction how it has transformed into a significant center for learning. He also praised the university’s diverse and multicultural environment, calling it a source of strength that fosters unity and mutual respect among students.

Sheikh Mubaje was accompanied by the Deputy Mufti, Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa, and other UMSC officials. They were welcomed by IUEA Vice Chancellor Prof. Emeka Akaezuwa and Resident Director Ambassador Hassan Alwi. Prof. Akaezuwa reiterated IUEA’s dedication to producing technologically adept graduates prepared for the demands of the global job market.

The Mufti toured various campus facilities, including laboratories and lecture halls, to observe the academic environment firsthand. The visit concluded with an exchange of gifts and a luncheon, reinforcing the commitment to advancing educational opportunities, especially for Muslim students, and promoting critical skills in science, technology, and innovation for Uganda’s future.
