The Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) is emphasizing the crucial role of accountants and finance professionals in steering Uganda towards its ambitious economic goals. During the 14th CPA Economic Forum, ICPAU President CPA David Timothy Ediomu urged members to step up as strategic leaders and provide evidence-based guidance.
The forum, themed “Powering Uganda’s US$500 Billion Future,” convened policymakers, business leaders, and finance experts to discuss strategies for economic transformation. Ediomu highlighted the government’s commitment to the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), particularly its focus on domestic revenue and key sectors like agro-industrialization, tourism, and technology.
Achieving sustainable growth, Ediomu stated, requires robust accountability, innovation, good governance, and strategic partnerships. He called on accountants to move beyond traditional roles and actively contribute to national development through their expertise and policy engagement.
Joseph Enyimu, representing the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing that accountants are vital for building trust and strengthening institutions. He noted that Uganda’s Tenfold Growth Strategy, centered on agro-industrialization, tourism, minerals, and science and technology, provides a strong foundation.
Enyimu challenged the accounting profession to become active participants in investment mobilization, public financial management, revenue growth, and risk management. He urged them to evolve into strategic advisors who champion value addition and innovation while upholding integrity.
The forum also touched on economic diplomacy and the importance of national health insurance. Delegates recommended a comprehensive, equitable national health insurance scheme.
The 14th CPA Economic Forum served as a vital platform for identifying practical solutions for Uganda’s economic advancement and institutional strengthening.
