Speaker Oboth Calls for Integrity in Parliamentary Leadership

Following the recent appointments to the Parliamentary Commission, committee leadership, and international parliamentary bodies, Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth has emphasized the critical importance of integrity for those entrusted with leadership roles in the 12th Parliament. The Speaker noted that these appointments signal the readiness of the Parliament to fully embark on its legislative, oversight, and representation duties.
He congratulated those who secured positions, while also offering words of encouragement to members who were not selected, reminding them that opportunities to contribute to parliamentary work remain plentiful. Speaker Oboth stressed that serving the interests of Ugandans should be the paramount concern for all members.
In other proceedings, the House is set to consider the Auditor General’s annual report for the financial year ending December 31, 2025. The Speaker confirmed an agreement reached by key parliamentary figures for the six-month review period to commence upon the report’s formal re-tabling before the House.
Additionally, the Speaker announced the passing of Hon. Ngilisi Kosiya, a former Member of Parliament for Bwamba Constituency, who served during Uganda’s inaugural parliamentary term from 1962 to 1971. Speaker Oboth recognized Kosiya as a foundational figure in Uganda’s legislative history and extended his condolences to the family and the nation.
