Parliament Revives Lapsed Business from Previous Session

The Ugandan Parliament has officially reinstated various items of business that were pending at the end of the 11th Parliament. A motion, moved by Hon. Faith Nakut, the Woman Representative for Napak District, secured the House’s approval to bring back these lapsed matters.

Among the reinstated items are the Annual Auditor General’s Report for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2025, and the Petroleum Fund Annual Report for the period ending June 2025. These reports are crucial for scrutinizing government spending and financial management.

Additionally, the Parliament will now proceed with an investigation into the destruction of Zoka forest and several petitions submitted by the public. Hon. Nakut emphasized that reinstating these matters is vital for MPs to identify financial loopholes and fulfill their oversight mandate.

“It is in the 2024/2025 financial year that our national budget significantly increased from Shs52 trillion to Shs72 trillion. It is therefore, good that the relevant committees look into some of these issues,” Nakut stated, highlighting the importance of reviewing expenditures, including the Shs484 billion from the Petroleum Fund used for Hoima City Stadium.

Several MPs, including Hon. Isaac Otimgiw and Hon. John Baptist Nambeshe, supported the motion, underscoring the need for timely completion of parliamentary business and effective committee work. The reinstatement ensures that critical public concerns and financial accountability measures are not overlooked.
