As Bukomansimbi District gears up for its Local Council I (LC1) elections, the Electoral Commission (EC) has issued a strong call for peace and adherence to electoral laws. District Returning Officer Betty Komugyereko emphasized the importance of a transparent and orderly process for all candidates and their supporters.
Komugyereko clarified that only individuals whose names are officially listed on the voter register will be eligible to cast a ballot. Residency within a village alone will not grant voting rights; the official register is the sole determinant of eligibility.
Preparations for the nomination of candidates are complete, with the exercise scheduled to commence on Wednesday, July 15th. Aspiring LC1 chairpersons and village committee members are directed to report to their respective sub-county headquarters with the necessary documentation. The EC stressed the need for candidates to conduct themselves with decorum throughout the nomination period.
Candidates and their campaign teams have been cautioned against engaging in any form of violence, intimidation, or electoral malpractice. These disruptive behaviors could jeopardize the integrity of the election.
An estimated 89,658 registered voters across 254 villages in Bukomansimbi District are expected to participate in electing their village chairpersons and executive committee members. District election officials have expressed optimism that the electoral process will proceed smoothly and transparently, provided all stakeholders commit to following the established guidelines and respecting the law.
