Security Guard Arrested in Fatal Stabbing of Hawker at BMK Plaza

A tragic incident unfolded at BMK Plaza in Kampala on July 10, 2026, when a hawker was fatally stabbed during an argument with a security guard. The confrontation reportedly began on the ground floor of the commercial building around 4:30 PM.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police, preliminary findings suggest the altercation arose after the hawker was requested to leave the premises by the guard.

The disagreement quickly escalated, leading to the guard allegedly stabbing the hawker in the chest. The victim collapsed at the scene and was pronounced dead.

The arrested suspect has been identified as Ian Mugisha, employed by Security 2000. Detectives on site immediately apprehended Mugisha and recovered what is believed to be the murder weapon.

As of Monday, the identity of the deceased had not yet been confirmed. The body has been transferred to the KCCA City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

Kampala Metropolitan Police have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal stabbing. ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, Deputy Public Relations Officer for Kampala Metropolitan Police, stated that “We have commenced investigations to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.” Further details are expected as the investigation progresses.
