Nile Excellence Awards Call for 2026 Nominations, Unveils Innovation Fund

The Nile Excellence Annual Awards (NEAA) is inviting nominations for its 2026 cycle, marking a significant step in recognizing and supporting Ugandan talent. Alongside the awards, the NEAA has introduced the Nile Excellence Innovation Fund, a new initiative designed to provide crucial support for innovators, entrepreneurs, and community leaders across the nation.

This fund aims to transform promising ideas into impactful projects that drive job creation and foster national development. Nominations are now open online for individuals, organizations, and institutions to put forward outstanding Ugandans whose work is making a tangible difference in their communities. The NEAA is looking for contributions in areas such as innovation, entrepreneurship, culture, tourism, community development, and national transformation.

The 2026 edition plans to support over 200 young innovators, businesses, and community initiatives through enhanced visibility, strategic partnerships, mentorship, and resource mobilization. Unlike many conventional awards focused solely on recognition, the NEAA champions the Nile Excellence Innovation Fund as its core initiative. This fund is dedicated to identifying, profiling, and supporting innovative projects that have the potential to generate employment, improve livelihoods, and contribute significantly to Uganda’s socio-economic progress.

According to Samuel Mwesiiga, the organizing committee chairman, Uganda possesses abundant talent that needs the right platforms to thrive. The awards are structured around three key pillars: innovation, culture, and tourism, deemed critical for Uganda’s economic growth, national identity, and global competitiveness. The recognition will span various sectors including technology, agribusiness, manufacturing, arts, conservation, education, health, and leadership.

This initiative aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and the Fourth National Development Plan (NDP IV), emphasizing innovation, human capital development, and private sector growth. The inaugural awards ceremony took place on December 28, 2025, in Tororo, honoring 20 individuals and organizations. For the 2026 edition, the awards have expanded from their Eastern Uganda roots to a national scope, though a majority of nominations are still anticipated from the eastern region. The official launch event is scheduled for August 28, 2026, at Sheraton Kampala Hotel.

Projects selected through the nomination process will be eligible for support from the Nile Excellence Innovation Fund, with funding expected from a mix of government institutions, development partners, and private sector sponsors.
