Mityana Police Probe Fatal Stabbing of Woman

Police in Mityana Municipality are urgently seeking suspects after a woman, identified as Lydia Nansubuga, was discovered with fatal stab wounds in her home on July 11, 2026. The grim discovery was made in Bamunanika Cell, Katakala Ward, when a neighbor, Eron Nampewo, followed up on a child who had gone to buy groceries from Nansubuga’s retail shop and took an unusually long time to return.

Upon arrival at Nansubuga’s premises, the neighbor found the victim’s seven-year-old daughter at the entrance. The child indicated her mother was inside and unwell. Shortly thereafter, the neighbor heard Nansubuga cry out for help, reportedly shouting, “Help me, I am dying.” Upon entering the house, the neighbor discovered Nansubuga lying in a pool of blood with severe injuries.

Residents and local authorities attempted to transport Nansubuga to Mityana General Hospital, but she tragically died from her wounds before reaching medical attention. A homicide team from Mityana Central Police Station processed the scene, documenting evidence and recovering a blood-stained knife believed to be the murder weapon, found approximately one meter from the victim.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination. Police are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the apprehension of the individual(s) responsible for this violent act. Investigations are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing.

‘We are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest the suspect or suspects involved in this murder,’ stated SSP Lameck Kigozi, Wamala Regional Police Spokesperson. He urged community members to cooperate with investigators by reporting any relevant information to the nearest police station, emphasizing the importance of public assistance in bringing those responsible to justice.
