Maracha NRM Chairperson Fatally Struck by Ambulance

A tragic accident has claimed the life of Charles Adiga Lwanga, the recently elected National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairperson for Maracha District. Lwanga, who also served as a teacher at Koyi Primary School, was fatally struck by a Maracha District ambulance on Monday evening.

The incident took place around 7:40 PM at Ovujo Trading Centre, situated along the Arua-Koboko highway. Police reports indicate that Lwanga was walking by the roadside when the ambulance, responding to an emergency, struck him from behind.

Preliminary investigations suggest the ambulance driver, Michael Chandia, swerved to avoid a stationary vehicle, inadvertently veering off the road and hitting Lwanga. The impact caused severe injuries, including a broken neck, spine, and left arm, leading to his immediate death at the scene.

The ambulance was en route to transfer a pregnant woman from Eliofe Health Centre III to Maracha Hospital. Fortunately, neither the expectant mother nor the driver sustained injuries during the unfortunate event.

Bosco Asea, the Maracha District Vice Chairperson, expressed profound sadness, highlighting Lwanga’s dedication as a party mobilizer and leader, calling his death a significant loss for the district and the NRM party.

The driver of the ambulance is currently in police custody at Maracha Central Police Station, assisting with the ongoing investigation. Lwanga’s body has been transferred to Maracha Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
