Super Select Corporates has provided much-needed supplies to the maternity ward at Lira Regional Referral Hospital. This donation is part of their commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), focusing on improving maternal health and giving back to the community.
The contributions included essential items such as soap, detergents, milk, and sugar, aimed at supporting new mothers, expectant mothers, and their families.
Mate Owen Asaba, Manager of Super Select Corporates, stated that the maternity ward was chosen because it represents the beginning of life and requires special care. He emphasized the group’s belief in respecting and supporting this vital place.
Founded in July 2022 by professionals united by a passion for football, Super Select Corporates has broadened its mission to include significant community outreach. The organization uses member subscriptions not only for team activities but also for community support, demonstrating a dual focus on sports and social impact.
Asaba mentioned previous successful community initiatives, including a donation of cleaning materials in Arua, and indicated plans for similar projects in other regions. The funds for these donations come directly from the members’ personal contributions.
Team member Chris Oluge highlighted the power of sport in fostering community and family bonds, extending beyond their identity as footballers. He noted that the donated items were a result of heartfelt contributions from the group’s members.
Looking ahead, the team plans to engage with pupils at Adele Primary School, mentoring them and encouraging sports as a potential career path.
Sr Betty Apio, Officer-in-Charge of the maternity ward, expressed gratitude, acknowledging that maternal care involves more than just medical treatment. She pointed out that the donated items would enhance hygiene, reduce infection risks, and provide necessary energy for mothers.
One recipient, Sandra Angom, shared her appreciation, noting how the supplies would alleviate the burdens faced by new mothers and ensure the cleanliness of their babies’ clothes. Super Select Corporates aims to continue utilizing football as a catalyst for community engagement and support throughout the region.
