Sino-Uganda Mbale Park Invests Shs115 Million in Community Welfare Projects

Residents of Doko Nsambya and surrounding areas in Mbale City can now access safe drinking water thanks to a new community water project commissioned by Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park. For years, the community relied on unsafe sources such as River Namatala and shallow wells, or purchased water at significant cost.

The Shs115 million investment by Sino-Uganda also includes the construction of a new market shelter for local vendors and the donation of 200 dustbins to Mbale City to enhance waste management and sanitation.

The project was officially launched at a ceremony attended by local government officials, company representatives, and community members. Speaking at the event, residents expressed gratitude, noting the significant improvement in their quality of life and reduced household expenses.

Sino-Uganda Public Relations Manager Kennedy Mushemeza stated that access to clean water was identified as a critical need. The company committed to covering the maintenance and electricity costs for the water system to ensure its continuous operation. “The water will be provided free of charge,” Mushemeza confirmed.

In addition to the water and market facilities, the company aims to support the local economy, particularly the over 1,500 workers at the industrial park. Local leaders commended Sino-Uganda for its commitment to community welfare, with pledges for future projects including a school and a health facility. Discussions are also underway to expand the market shelter to accommodate more vendors, and efforts are being made to support traders with financial empowerment programs.

Sino-Uganda Mbale Industrial Park continues to be a major employer in eastern Uganda, creating thousands of jobs.
