Senator Lindsey Graham's Cause of Death Identified as Aortic Dissection

U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican figure and close ally of former President Donald Trump, has died at the age of 71. According to preliminary findings from the Washington D.C. medical examiner, the cause of death was an “aortic dissection,” a severe tear in the aorta, the body’s largest artery, stemming from cardiovascular disease.

Graham, who represented South Carolina, was elected to the Senate in 2002 and became a significant voice in foreign policy, frequently advocating for U.S. military engagement abroad.

His passing comes just days after he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv. Zelensky expressed his deep sadness, remembering Graham as “a true defender of freedom.”

Graham was known for his assertive foreign policy stance, notably his strong support for intervention and his recent comments regarding potential U.S. actions towards Iran.

His spokesperson indicated that the official death certificate is pending the finalization of toxicological and microscopic testing. In the interim, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has the authority to appoint a temporary replacement for Graham’s Senate seat, with the permanent successor to be determined in the upcoming November midterm elections. Prior to his death, Republicans held a slim majority in the Senate, a dynamic that could be affected by the upcoming elections.
