A road accident in Omoro District has resulted in injuries to more than 20 UPDF soldiers on Saturday. The soldiers were being transported in a military truck to their various duty stations across the region.
These soldiers had recently completed their training at the Labwordwong Military Training School just days prior, on Thursday. They were part of a larger group being deployed to different units under the Fourth Infantry Division.
While initial reports suggested the incident occurred on the Agago-Pader road, later information indicates the crash took place in the neighboring Omoro district. The truck had reportedly refueled at the Fifth Infantry Division headquarters in Acholi Pii, Pader district, before continuing its journey.
Military sources have stated that two soldiers sustained severe leg injuries, while the remaining soldiers suffered injuries of varying degrees. All affected soldiers are currently receiving medical attention at the barracks of the Fourth Infantry Division.
An army official, speaking anonymously, confirmed that there were no fatalities reported among the injured soldiers. Captain David Kamya, the public information officer for the Fourth Infantry Division, acknowledged the incident involving a military vehicle but did not provide further specifics. The UPDF has not yet released a comprehensive statement regarding the accident.
This incident follows closely on the heels of another serious road crash in Northern Uganda, where a bus and a trailer collided in Omoro District, leading to 15 fatalities and 28 injuries.
