Sembabule Residents Secure Land Ownership with New Titles

Residents in Sembabule Town Council are celebrating the distribution of land titles, recognizing the move as a pivotal step towards solidifying their claims and minimizing land-related conflicts.

The exercise, which saw 19 residents receive their land titles out of 43 applications, is seen as a major boost for property security in the area. District officials have assured that the remaining applications are in advanced stages of processing and will be issued after final verification.

Beneficiaries have expressed immense relief and happiness, stating that the titles provide concrete legal evidence of their ownership. This newfound security is anticipated to foster greater confidence among residents to invest in their land and properties.

Local leaders, including Kiwuula Village Chairperson Kasule Siraje, have lauded the initiative and urged those who haven’t yet applied to follow suit. The District Senior Lands Management Officer, Emmanuel Kananula, highlighted the importance of meticulous land administration, noting that no titles had been issued in Sembabule prior to this exercise.

Resident District Commissioner Jane Francis Kaggayi explained that the deliberate pace in issuing titles was to ensure thorough verification, preventing potential errors and future disputes. She acknowledged the significant role of the land office in resolving numerous land conflicts that frequently appear before her office, emphasizing that secure land ownership is paramount.

Officials believe that strengthening tenure security through land titles will not only reduce conflicts but also stimulate economic development by encouraging further investment in land.
