Eighteen years ago, NBS began with a commitment to deliver credible and impactful journalism to Ugandans. Today, it stands as one of the nation’s most influential multimedia brands, reaching millions through various platforms including television, radio, digital, and streaming services.

The milestone was marked with a gathering at Next Media Park, bringing together current and former employees, board members, partners, and friends. This event served as a moment of reflection, gratitude, and celebration for the collective journey that has shaped the station’s identity.

A particularly memorable aspect of the anniversary celebrations was the return of several recognizable former presenters. A week-long program saw faces like Solomon Serwanjja, Rukh-Shana Kitaka, and Mable Twegumye grace the screens once more, hosting shows that defined their broadcasting careers and reconnecting with a vast audience.

During the main celebration, Next Media leadership acknowledged the contributions of its “Transformers.” This included recognizing former employees who returned for the milestone, long-serving staff whose dedication has been instrumental, and outstanding team members who contributed to the success of the #NBSAt18 campaign.

Kin Kariisa, CEO of Next Media Group, expressed deep appreciation for everyone involved over the past 18 years, emphasizing that the NBS story is incomplete without acknowledging the pioneers and collaborators. He specifically welcomed back former employees, declaring NBS as their home and pledging continued support.

Kariisa also highlighted the significant reach achieved during the anniversary week, attributing it to the returning presenters and confirming Next Media’s ambition to lead Africa’s media industry through continuous investment in technology and talent, aiming to conquer the continent in the next five years. The Board of Directors, through chairman Charles Baguma, applauded the organization’s resilience, teamwork, and the strong relationships that have fueled its growth and infrastructure development.

The celebration concluded with a forward-looking perspective, focusing on building on the past 18 years of growth and innovation to further inform, inspire, and connect audiences across Uganda and beyond. The NBS journey is a testament to the collective efforts of its founders, staff, and supporters.

This celebration honored the past while setting a bold vision for the future of NBS.
