UPDF Commander Pleads with Somali Youth for Peace and Development

Colonel Justus Musenene, commander of the Ugandan Battle Group 45 serving with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), has called upon the youth in Barawe District to become active participants in fostering peace, security, and development.

During a meeting with local youth leaders at the Battle Group 45 headquarters, Colonel Musenene emphasized the importance of utilizing the improved security situation to drive community growth and stability. He stressed that patriotism and nationalism are fundamental values for achieving lasting socio-economic transformation and that the youth bear a significant responsibility in shaping their nation’s future.

“As young people, you have a responsibility to safeguard your country and contribute positively to its development,” Musenene stated, highlighting the critical role of vigilance against extremist ideologies. He commended the youth for their cooperation with AUSSOM forces and encouraged continued unity in resisting the influence of Al-Shabaab, thereby reinforcing peace and stability efforts in the region.

The commander underscored that sustained collaboration between communities and security forces is vital for consolidating the security gains achieved in Barawe and other conflict-affected areas.

Representing the Barawe District Youth Council, General Secretary Hassan Mohammed expressed gratitude for the UPDF’s professionalism and their contribution to restoring peace. He affirmed the council’s commitment to ongoing cooperation with AUSSOM, acknowledging the crucial role of the partnership between residents and troops in maintaining security in Barawe.

The meeting was attended by several UPDF officers and members of the Barawe District Youth Council, reinforcing the collaborative approach to stabilizing Somalia.
