Tragedy has struck Naalya Senior Secondary School, Bweyogerere campus, where a Senior Four student was found dead in a suspected suicide incident. The student’s body was discovered on Wednesday evening, hanging inside a toilet block in the boys’ section.
Kampala Metropolitan Police, through Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigyire, confirmed the incident. Upon being alerted by the school administration, detectives and Scene of Crime officers from Kira Division Police promptly visited the location. They meticulously documented the scene, gathered evidence, and recorded witness statements.
The student’s body was subsequently transported to Mulago City Mortuary for a postmortem examination. Preliminary investigations suggest the student was last seen entering the toilet facility shortly before the grim discovery.
A handwritten note, believed to be from the deceased, was also recovered at the scene and is currently under examination by the police. The authorities have extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and the entire school community during this period of immense grief. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death are ongoing.
This unfortunate event highlights a concerning trend of suspected suicides reported in educational institutions across Uganda in recent years. Factors such as immense academic pressure, high expectations, and insufficient mental health support within schools are frequently cited as contributing elements to student distress.
