In a decisive move to enhance public safety, Kampala Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with allied security agencies, has conducted extensive operations targeting known criminal dens and crime hotspots. The coordinated sweeps, which took place on the nights of July 7 and 8, 2026, focused on areas exhibiting high rates of street crime, house break-ins, and robberies.
Significant arrests were made in Kiwempe and Kibati within Kansanga, where 30 suspects were detained from a location believed to be a staging ground for illicit activities. Following numerous public complaints, these individuals are currently undergoing a thorough screening process. Some face charges related to being public nuisances, while others are being investigated for direct involvement in criminal enterprises.
Further operations in Seeta, Mukono District, led to the apprehension of 22 more suspects from identified black spots in Bajjo and Ntinda villages. Evidence suggesting a connection to drug abuse was found, with some suspects allegedly in possession of suspected opium, leading to corresponding charges.
An additional eight male suspects were taken into custody in Mutungo Zone 1 (Kunya), Nakawa Division, by Jinja Road Police. These individuals were apprehended from areas notorious for drug abuse and robbery. All arrested suspects are being held pending further investigations and potential prosecution.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire emphasized that these operations are crucial for disrupting criminal operations and addressing community concerns.
