Gen. Muhoozi Warns UPDF Against 'Agents of Foreign Interests'

During a pass-out ceremony for over 10,000 UPDF recruits at Kaweweta Basic Military Training School, Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba delivered a strong message against perceived external influences. Presided over by President Yoweri Museveni, the event marked the completion of basic military training for a new cohort of soldiers.

Gen. Muhoozi cautioned that while Uganda remains secure and peaceful, the nation faces threats from “fifth column of neocolonialist sympathizers and agents of foreign interests” aiming to sabotage national independence and development. He assured the public that the UPDF is aware of these “insidious machinations” and is prepared to counter them, stating unequivocally that such activities will not be permitted.

“We can’t and shall not tolerate agents of foreign interests who secretly work to undermine the country’s progress. We will never allow agents of foreign interest to demoralize and demobilize the patriotic and nationalistic spirit of Ugandans,” Gen. Muhoozi declared, stressing Uganda’s commitment to determining its own path free from external interference.

The Chief of Defence Forces also highlighted the crucial link between national security and Uganda’s economic transformation agenda. He expressed optimism about achieving the goal of a US$500 billion economy by 2040, assuring that the UPDF would support government efforts to reach this target. The military’s role in safeguarding national interests and fostering socio-economic progress remains paramount, especially following the recent general election which brought in a new parliamentary and cabinet leadership.
