80-Year-Old Incumbent Seeks Another Term as Maganjo B Village Chair After Four Decades

Hajj Jabeli Musoke Segujja, the octogenarian chairperson of Maganjo B Village in Nansana Municipality, is seeking another term in office after an impressive 40-year tenure.

Segujja, who first took the helm at age 40, stated that his decision to run again was prompted by numerous requests from residents who wish for his continued leadership. He highlighted several developments during his long service, including improvements in access to clean water and local road infrastructure.

“During the years I have served, we have managed to achieve a number of developments, including bringing clean water closer to residents and improving the roads in our community,” Segujja remarked.

He emphasized that his motivation is not to cling to power but rather to nurture and prepare the next generation of leaders for the village. Segujja plans to use this potential final term to identify and mentor a successor.

“What has brought me back this time is to train leaders who will succeed me. People realised there was no one adequately prepared to take over, so they asked me to return,” he explained, pledging that this would indeed be his last term.

However, his bid for another term faces opposition from fellow aspirant Mike Kawuki. Kawuki believes that after four decades under the same leadership, it is time for a change and for other individuals to have the opportunity to lead the village.

This contest is taking place in anticipation of the Local Council I elections scheduled for July 28, which will mark the beginning of a new leadership cycle at the grassroots level across Uganda.
