Authorities in Kampala have taken a significant step in combating local crime with the arrest of a man suspected of multiple robberies in Kiwatule. The suspect, identified as Joel Nkwasibwe, was apprehended on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, as part of an operation driven by intelligence gathering.
The operation, conducted in the Balintuma Zone of Kiwatule, targeted individuals reportedly responsible for a recent surge in attacks and robberies affecting residents, particularly during the early morning hours.
Racheal Kawala, Spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, confirmed that Nkwasibwe had been on the police’s radar. “The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-led operation targeting criminals who have been attacking and robbing members of the public, especially during the early morning hours. He is believed to be linked to a number of robbery incidents,” Kawala stated.
Initial investigations suggest Nkwasibwe’s alleged involvement in a specific incident on July 6, 2026, where a boda boda rider was reportedly attacked and robbed of his belongings using a blunt object. The victim sustained severe injuries and required hospitalization.
Nkwasibwe is currently in police custody pending further investigation. Police are urging anyone with additional information regarding the suspect’s activities to come forward and assist in the ongoing inquiry. Kawala also emphasized the importance of public vigilance and cooperation with security agencies to enhance community safety.
