Nakiwala Kiyingi Urges Youth to Delay Parenthood Until Financially Ready

Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, formerly the State Minister for Youth and Children Affairs, has issued a stern warning to young Ugandans, imploring them to postpone starting families until they are adequately prepared.

During a recent television appearance, Nakiwala emphasized that bringing a child into the world is a profound commitment that should transcend societal pressures or impulsive decisions. She stressed the importance of young individuals first securing their own stability and formulating a comprehensive plan for child-rearing before embarking on parenthood.

“It is not advisable to give birth before you are prepared and have a clear plan for how you will provide for your child, feed them, and educate them. Giving birth is not a race or a competition. It is a choice, not an obligation,” Nakiwala stated.

She further elaborated that every child is entitled to parents who can reliably meet their fundamental needs, including sustenance, education, and overall well-being. These sentiments emerge at a critical juncture for many young Ugandans grappling with unemployment, escalating living expenses, and persistent financial insecurity, which significantly complicates the challenges of young parenthood.

Nakiwala’s counsel encourages the youth to prioritize self-development, establish financial security, and engage in meticulous planning as foundational steps before assuming the lifelong duty of raising a family.
