A harrowing road accident on the Kampala-Gulu Highway has left 14 people dead and 28 others seriously injured. The collision involved an Isuzu bus operated by OPIT Travellers Company and a Mercedes-Benz Actros trailer.

The incident took place around 9:34 PM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, near Bobi Trading Centre. According to Traffic Police spokesperson Michael Kananura, initial findings suggest the bus driver was speeding and attempted to swerve to avoid a pedestrian. This maneuver led to a loss of control and a devastating head-on impact with the oncoming trailer.

Kananura urged all drivers to exercise extreme caution, especially during nighttime travel when visibility is compromised. He stressed the importance of adhering to speed limits, remaining vigilant for pedestrians in trading centers, and maintaining a speed that allows for safe stopping.
