Col. Nakalema Launches Book Celebrating Father's Legacy of Faith and Service

Col. Edith Nakalema, Head of the State House Investors Protection Unit (SHIPU), recently unveiled a new book, ‘My Father and I: The Power of Intentional Fatherhood,’ as a tribute to her late father, Rev. Eliasaph Sserwadda. The launch event, held at Protea Hotel Kampala, was graced by the Vice President, H.E. Jessica Alupo.

Vice President Alupo lauded Col. Nakalema for her initiative in preserving her father’s legacy, highlighting Rev. Sserwadda’s extensive contributions to faith, family, and community service. Rev. Sserwadda, an Anglican priest and community leader, served as a lay reader for 53 years before his ordination, dedicating his life to God and his community.

The book’s proceeds are earmarked for the completion of All Saints Church, Kanyeganyegye, Kashari, a project undertaken in memory of Rev. Sserwadda. Vice President Alupo commended Col. Nakalema’s dedication, viewing her as a testament to the strong values instilled by her father and a positive reflection of African childen’s respect and responsibility.

Col. Nakalema described her father as a profound source of inspiration, faith, and discipline. She shared memories of a childhood rich in love and faith, despite limited financial resources. Her father emphasized intentional fatherhood, teaching that love, faith, and service form the bedrock of a meaningful life. He prioritized his children’s education, ensuring all five achieved university degrees.

“Taata gave opportunities where others saw burdens. His life proved that generosity is not measured by the size of one’s income but by the size of one’s heart,” Col. Nakalema remarked. She also highlighted his commitment to hard work and humility, recalling his efforts to manually fabricate metal beds and gutters to fund their education.

Following Rev. Sserwadda’s passing, the Rev. Sserwadda Foundation was established to continue his legacy of service, with the church construction being a key focus. Col. Nakalema also expressed gratitude for President Museveni’s mentorship and the trust placed in her public service roles, which have deepened her understanding of patriotism and commitment.

The book launch also featured remarks from former Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Dr. Henry Luke Orombi, and the current Archbishop, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Kaziimba Mugalu, who both emphasized the importance of honoring parents and leaving a positive legacy. Senior Counsel Francis Gimara, Secretary of the Rev. Sserwadda Foundation, praised Col. Nakalema for documenting a story that champions intentional fatherhood, underscoring its vital role in family and societal growth. Eng. Daniel Tayebwa conveyed thanks on behalf of the Sserwadda family for the support towards the Foundation and the church project.
